Deception and discernment in the Christian church
Date: 07-04-2006

In 1 Chronicles 12:32 we read about the anointing of the sons of Issaschar. These member of this tribe in Israel had a special anointing to know the times and seasons ‘with knowledge of what Israel should do’. This verse shows that we must know the times and seasons of the Lord in order to know how we should act. I believe that the Dutch church lives now in a season as described in Amos 7:7-9 and in Malachi 3:3. Just like the season as described in Malachi there is a strong expectation of a major spiritual breakthrough in the nation of God’s power and Glory.

But this breakthrough also comes with an intensive purification of the ‘sons of Levi’, whether we like it or not. The sons of Levi are a picture of the church and her leaders. The spiritual season as described in Amos 7 is characterised by God’s application of His plumb line to his people. In Old Testament times the people held a plumb line next to a wall that had just been built. The plumb line determined whether the wall was straight or not. A wall that was not straight was torn down again, in spite of the time and effort it had taken to build it. In the same fashion God was going to put His plumb line next to the spiritual buildings of Israel. God announced judgement over these spiritual buildings because their walls turned out not to be straight.
